 Higgins Arrested For Stealing Copper And Heat Pumps posted January 14, 2008 An arrest has been made in the investigation of stolen heat pumps and copper in the Soddy-Daisy and Hamilton County areas. Scottie Lamar Higgins of 1425 Thrasher Pike in Hixson is in custody in the Hamilton County Jail. In the first part of December, the Soddy-Daisy Police Department and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office received reports of theft of heat pumps from churches in the North Soddy -aisy and Hamilton County areas. Soddy-Daisy also received a report of stolen copper from the new Soddy Elementary School. It was estimated that approximately $19,000 worth of heat pumps and copper were taken during these thefts and burglaries. It was found that the heat pumps had been stripped of the copper for resale. Det. Charlie Kilgore with the Soddy-Daisy Police Department and Det. Monte Manka with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office made the arrest. Det. Kilgore charged Higgins with two counts of theft of property over $1,000, one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of burglary. Det. Manka charged Higgins with one count of theft over $1,000. Officials said the Soddy-Daisy Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office worked jointly in solving the thefts from the area churches and the burglary and theft of copper from Soddy Elementary School. |
