On Sunday, November 27th the Soddy-Daisy Fire Department responded to a fire that was first toned out as a residential fire fully involved and with people still in the house.
 
It was quickly found that it was not the house but the garage behind the house on Dayton Pike near Burns Street. First in Firefighters saw the garage fully involved but the house was not touched. As the first Engine arrived part of the outer house wall burst into flames and the siding melted on an area further away from the garage. The electric power line to the garage burned and fell to the ground leaving a live wire exposure. 

   In the garage were two cars and other flammables that resulted in a very hot fire.

 
Just as the fire was getting under control a magnesium engine in one of the cars started burning. Magnesium burns white hot can not be put out with water and had to burn out. The white hot fire brightened the silhouette of the working firefighters.

The outer walls of the house were damaged but the house itself was saved with no damage to the inside. The downed electrical wire was protected until EPB arrived and cut it off. No one was injured. The fire was so hot it melted the satellite dish and the light fixture on the top of a power pole over 30 feet away.

The firefighters did have one additional problem. A supply line from the fire hydrant started leaking. It held up for the fire and was then taken out of service.
